On October 15, the first edition of Film+ – a
monthly magazine for film was published.
Its motto is: Objective, reasoned,
subversive.
FILM+
After the short anticipation,
I found it more than excit-
ing that in one of Skopje’s
booths I was able to buy the
recently published first edi-
tion of Film+ - a monthly magazine for
film. Usually these are privileges which
belong to some other, more developed
cultural environments. The pleasure to
hold and to page through a film maga-
zine is some slightly forgotten feeling
ever since the time when I was impa-
tiently waiting for the last edition of
Sight & Sound and Film Comment,
when the Internet had not taken the
primacy of a dominant source of infor-
mation related to film art.
The logo of the magazine is simple
and likeable. Instead of the usual strik-
ing portrait which should visually at-
tract you, the editorial team decided
to place a collage on the cover page: a
combination of informative text and
photographs which indicate four con-
tents displaced in the magazine, as
well as the page number where they
are displayed. Something which is
normally presented in the next pages.
The introduction which is signed by
Sunchica Unevska (together with Vlat-
ko Galevski, the editors in chief of the
magazine) has the title: “Objective and

critical for the Macedonian film”. Ev-
eryone who is emotionally related to
the domestic film, would agree that
this is a title which should also apply
for the institutions which finance the
film, thereby conducting the film policy
in our country. In the first sentence of
the introduction it is indicated: “Film+
is the first monthly magazine, however
the first film magazine in Macedonia in
general.” One famous and already pop-
ularized proverb says: The ones who do
not remember the past, are condemned
to repeat it. The publication of a film
magazine in the current social and
cultural context of course gets dimen-
sions of a pioneering endeavor. Still, in
the history of the Macedonian cultural
journalism which suffers of chronic
discontinuity, the film magazines “Ki-
notecen mesechnik” (Film Library
Monthly Journal) and “Kinopis” are also
recorded.
With its generic concept, however
also with its circulation of 1,500 cop-
ies, Film+ addresses the wider audience
and in the specific context this seems
the right choice. It contains a notable
diversity of contents, as well as a good
balance in the representation of the
Macedonian and the world film: reviews
