Ivanka Apostolova is the commissioner of the exhibition БАНКРАУРБСРТИВКОА
What is your role in this project?
My part of the obligations in the team of “Stone Design” and the Macedonian
pavilion is communication and coordination about the staging, as well as
promotion of the work. This takes place in association with the Italian team at
the biennale, communication with foreign magazines, platforms, academies, fairs,
festivals, everything for the purpose of more extensive promotion of the work. At
the same time, I’m the editor of the dedicated Macedonian catalogue for the project “No Man’s Land”, and
a coordinator of the virtual exhibition of the Google Cultural Institute which will be open in September
2016. For this purpose, I arrange and prepare the materials for the projects for this exhibition in partnership
activities with the Architecture Biennale.
In the tunnel of No Man’s Land geography, rather to the humanity.
London’s Gherkin is reflected in no man’s land
How did the cooperation with the per-
formers progress?
Thanks to “Usjepor”, “Zavar”, and “Rade
Koncar”, the performance of the project
progressed very well. The interior of the
tunnel is made of inox mirror which cre-
ates allusive dream-like images. When the
visitor walks around, he sees himself in a
city that never ends because it is reflected.
The person recognizes himself/herself in
known and unknown landscapes, nobody’s
landscapes, for example you can see the
building in London, and suddenly a build-
ing that does not exist. This puts the view-
er in a space that belongs to no one, and
still it belongs to everyone.
Did the reactions of the audience and
the journalists meet your expectations?
Visually the project had a very powerful
appearance, I was working on it so that it
can have a sculpture appearance, I didn’t
want it to have multimedia, I didn’t want
monitors, this was a frequent occurrence
in the past 20 to 30 years. I wanted us to
make a work that can function visually,
with a shape.
We received some quite positive criti-
cism, many eminent international portals
and magazines which are directly engaged
in architecture, wrote about us, so it is my
pleasure to say that there was great inter-
est and great attendance indeed.
